I'm 5'1 and approximately 100 lbs. I'd love to get a motorcycle, they are fun and much better on gas than my gas guzzling truck! But I honestly don't know **** about them. So what would you recommend and why? Any pointers greatly appreciated as well!! I'll take any info you can give me. Thanks so much!!

  1. the most important thing is to feel comfortable on whatever you get...i dont mean just 'sitting' on the bike, but also driving.  driving a motorcycle can sometimes be tricky, especially if you are unfamiliar with one.  i am not sure what your history with bikes is (maybe you raced around on dirt bikes all your life) so that can play into the decision also.  my suggestion would be if you havent had much practice on a bike, go with something small, maybe even a moped or scooter? i know i started off on a 1970 honda. i think it was a 90cc? (i cant remember all the exact details) but, it was a great thing to start off on because it allowed me to practice getting used to the different controls AND had i had to also shift on this particular bike (which was more great practice) and then after that i moved up to a 250cc honda rebel.  in general, it is best to take it slow and start off on something with a smaller engine, and then you can always move up in size later if you wish.  if you feel you are ready for a motorcycle,  you have to decide which 'style' you want.  if you think more of a sport bike, then i guess the 250 kawasaki would be the way to go. however, check the seat height and try sitting on one and make sure your feet can reach the ground and steady the bike.  if its more a cruiser style you want, i would suggest the honda rebel (also a 250cc).  it had a pretty low seat height, a light bike, great gas mileage (i could usually get between 70 and 80 mpg on mine) and it looks great...you could get a suzuki 250, but personally i would go with honda, it seems like they do a really good job, plus i think the honda looks better. but its your choice and its what is available to you and in your price range, good luck! and be safe..if you do go with a motorcycle, look into taking a safety class.  they give great instructions for riding plus i think you can get reduce your insurance costs sometimes.

  2. You have to build up your skill and confidence.  The showing off and one upmanship can come later.

There is an international favorite know world over as the Honda Cub.  It comes in 50cc, 70cc and 100cc versions.

It is a 4 stroke step thru motorcycle which features a kick start and foot operated gears.  However to make things easier, there is no clutch (It is semi-automatic).

To my mind, it is the most friendly two-wheeler that I have come across in my many years of riding and teaching.  Try to get your hands on one.  Then you will understand.  It looks quite smart & is frugal too !

  3. Buell Blast. Sportster is a very poor starter bike, as they still weigh 450 pounds and are top heavy!

  4. I don't think everyone read the part about you being 5'1" tall. Sportster and Buell, no way.  Ninja 250 probalby a stretch.

I had a Virago 250 once. The seat is really really low. It was almost like sitting in a chair when my feet were on the ground. You might wanna take a look at one for a starter bike.

The Rebel is probably good in the inseam department, as well.

  5. If your not looking for a sport bike the Honda Rebel is a great little bike too.

  6. a gsxr 1000....im jk a 250cc ninja would be the baest way to start

  7. Harley Davidson Sportster 883 CC.  Smaller bike weighs less.  Check out cycle trader in your area.

  8. if i were you i personally like sport bikes better and idk how old you are but usually younger people are more into the fun so i would get a 250cc kawasaki ninja ;) but im taller and heavier than you so ofcourse i'd get a bigger bike but tht would be perfect for you :D

  9. Ninja250R is a cute little scooter you'll have fun on for abut 2 months.

If you get a Suzuki GS500F you'll learn safely and still have fun even after your skills improve.
