  1. I would buy a good mountain bike, a front suspension.  A good economical brand is diamondback it is a great starter bike brand that has good quality you can find them at bike shops or the sports authority


  2. I would suggest either a light hardtail MTB or a hybrid.

    ...and a good lock. Get a lock costing at least 15% of the price of your bike. My mate had his road bike stolen from campus grounds...in a bike lockup, with security card entry, 15 foot high fence and security cameras watching...Were the Guards watching the screens? No.

  3. Well, you certainly don't need a suspension fork for a commute but many use a MTB. An ideal bike for you would be a rigid sus MTB or hybrid. For locking up on campus, I'd def look for a cheaper used bike. Too many times nicer bikes get ripped off or parts taken.

    Even when my buds and I went to school (we all had high end bikes) we all got beaters for campus. We didn't worry too much about theft or leaving out in the weather.
