Question:

What would be a good board for backcountry snowboarding?

I am looking at buying my second board. I have a '07 Burton Elite 151 which I enjoy for my all around boarding. I am capable of linking my turns on the quad runs and am progressing pretty well on the diamond runs. Though resorts are good for cruising and just getting out, I am looking to hit the backcountry next season. I am just unsure on which board would be proper. I am 5'8" and weigh 175lbs. The Burton is short and I know I need something a little wider and longer for the deep pow runs in the back country. So I am looking for advice on companies and models in which will allow me to take a step forward and get me in the backcountry pow runs. I'm not looking to run through the major steeps yet, but eventually I want to progress to that level. So if anyone can help out, please do so.

  1. any jehovah's witness  will do nicely. you just tie their arms back behind their heads and tie to their ankles and your off!! if they give you any yap remind them you have to be forgiven:-)

  2. If your looking for a Backcountry Only board, the Fish is probably  the best choice. Its got a huge nose and a huge kick. It flexes up high for powder floatation. The 09 Model also has a mini Swallow tail.

But remember, its not gonna be that great of a board anywhere else ( especially park). You will have a hard time riding switch ( if you even can with that board). And i think it also voids the warranty if you use the board on a rail.

The Burton Malolo is almost like the fish, except it has a rounder shape like a regular board. It can be used in more areas and on trails and such. It also has a Tapered shape( bigger nose and kick for powder floatation). This board is more versatile.
