I'm 16 and still deciding. I'm a really deep person. I'd love to major in philosophy, but there are no careers there except prelaw. I love to write. But I don't want to be poor and only have the skill of writing. I still want to be intelligent. Any suggestions?

  1. Many careers require just a bachelor's degree, period. It doesn't matter what the actual degree is in.

Many graduate programs don't require a specific undergraduate major, so you could take philosophy and then do graduate work in business, education, law (as you said), medicine, or some other academic field such as psychology, social policy, theology, English, etc.

Philosophy will give you skill in logic as well as writing. If you really love it, you can become a philosophy professor.

You do not have to choose a major and stick to it forever. Choose philosophy, take a few courses in that department and others, then decide. You could always minor in it and major in something career related.
