What would be a good centerpiece for a reception?

I have 3 months until my wedding. I plan on a small but nice wedding reception with about 40 guests. I plan on having about 12-15 tables and need a unique centerpiece. Something that is nice, but cheap (if you know what I mean.)

  1. Hi and congratulations!

I would love to help.  First of all....do you have certain colors that you are wanting to stay with?  Are you able or not able to have candles?  Are you against flowers or do you want flowers?  Are you sure you need that many tables?  Perhaps you are only seating 4 at a table....I'm not sure.  Edit your question and I will get back to you.

EDIT:  OK, the first thing to remember is to keep your centerpieces LOW.  There is nothing worse than trying to speak with someone on the other side of the table, only to be obstructed by a tall centerpiece.

Why not get low glass dishes like these:

Fill it about 1/3 with black rocks like these:

Then, float a few white floating candles in it:

If you have the money, it looks really nice if you put it all on a mirror tile:

NOTE:  You can buy all of the above at dollar stores such as Dollar Tree.  You can even order in bulk from their website:

You could spinkle a few burgundy rose petals around also if you want.

    That is one idea.

Other ideas are to get a glass vase as above and use real cranberries (the burgundy color you are wanting), then push down a white votive candle in the cranberries:

Here are some other ideas using real cranberries:

  2. Go to your local craft store or dollar store and get candles, glass cover, and flower wreath to go over the candle in your colors... you can also find flower peddles to sprinkle on the table. Congratulations

  3. My daughter recently married. She had a black and white wedding. The most beautiful wedding I've seen. We were so undecided about centerpieces until we got with a wedding decorator and looked at her ideas. Listen to this. We had the most beautiful Plume Feathers at each table alternating white and black. Check out WeddingsbyNicole.com and look at her feather decorations. I believe she even has pics of my daughters wedding reception on her website. Oh, and the price beat fresh flowers if you're on a budget. However, we did have fresh flowers at the head table, gift and cake table.
