  1. The best decorated donut by a customer.

  2. a donut eating contest or guess the number of sprinkles on top of a cake.  Of course, you would have to count them yourself!

  3. You're trying to build brand recognition and store loyalty.

Guess the number of cookies in a cookie jar.  Winner gets jar and x number of cookies.  Or, depending on finances, winner gets jar and a dozen (or two dozen) cookies a week for a year.  This ensures the winner comes to your store each week for a year.  (Ties settled by random drawing of correct answers pulled from an identical jar by a child.  Give the child a cookie (or a dozen) for doing the drawing.)

Our Prices are Right.  (Take off on The Price is Right.)  Pick out a number of your bakery items (say a loaf of French bread, a loaf of Pumpernickel, a dozen croissants, a dozen donuts, a two dozen pack of cookies, and a  carrot cake, or whatever you sell or wish to introduce to your customers), and ask customers to guess the total price of the items.  The customer who guesses the closest without going over wins a gift certificate.  (Or a basket containing the items.)  In case of tie, use the random drawing of correct answers again.  Maybe have a few consolation prizes.  Like the winner gets a $50 or $100 gift certificate and the next three names pulled get the items.  Of course, most customers will go through the bakery department and get the prices of the items and add them up.  Which is okay, as what you want is for customers to become acquainted with the bakery department and the items you offer for sale.  The random drawing takes care of the many correct answers you should receive.

Celebrate our Grand Opening with your  Birthday (or your Birthday Party).  Register to win a free birthday cake (or cake, ice cream and birthday themed paper plates, napkins, party decorations, etc.)  Either pull one winner by random drawing, or have twelve entry boxes, one for each month, and pull one winner for each month.  Notify winner(s) now, and also send the winner a birthday card/reminder about a week or two before the date to "come pick up the cake you won at our store's grand opening."
