Not too lightweight but also not too heavy. They will have tabs at the top to hang from.

  1. Quick and easy curtains can be made from sheets--don't even have to hem or make a rod placket. Ready-made curtains are not that expensive--cheaper than buying the fabric). If you're going to the trouble to sew your own, then you will want a decorator fabric, anything from a linen-weight to a brocade (depending on how fancy you want). These are usually in the "decorator" section of fabric stores.

  2. almost any kind... I made some out of muslin (super cheap). I think it depends on the weight of fabric you're looking for, color, feel, texture.... Just stay way from silky/satiny ones... they're way too difficult to sew unless  you have lots of experience and they show snags and imperfections easily.

Just go to a fabric store or to a Joann's and walk around, check out what they have.

  3. I think silk with a cotton lining in it would look great

  4. I agree with using sheets. There are so many colors to choose from. Just get a high thread count....at least 300. Measure how long you need them and how wide and that will decide if you need twin, full or queen. Get the measurements for the sheets from here: http://interiordec.about.com/cs/beds/l/b...
