GET A HONDA CIVIC OR AN ACURA INTEGRA BOTH HAVE TONS OF AFTERMARKET SUPPORT. BOTH CARS ARE REALLY RELIABLE FAST AND FUN AND POCKET WISE WOULD RUN U ABOUT 800- $2000 AND MAN ARE THEY FUN, ALSO ECONOMY, MY CAR WOULD RUN ME ABOUT $600-800 A YEAR (IM SERIOUS). DEPENDING ON HOW FAR U TRAVEL I WOULD SAY THE SAME. ALSO SOME PEOPLE TEND TO GET INTO THE CAR WORLD AS I HAVE SOON YOUR CAR WILL B CONVERTED INTO YOUR PERSONAL SHRINE. TRUST ME YOULL LOVE IT. I LOVE MY 94 CIVIC  OH ONE LAST THING I PAY $40 FOR INSURANCE (LIABILITY) BUT ITS UNDER MY MOMS NAME TEENS CAR INSURANCE SKYROCKETS SO B SMART

LOL   Gene's right, forget Fast.... for the obvious, As well, the insurance will be double.  Check how much insurance is on several cars before u buy.  Not to mention registration.  Bills add up pal.  

Wish I knew what your budget was....if u can afford one, go with honda, toyota, nissan, etc.  USED, of course!

You can't go wrong, then save for the Buggati, Vehron.  Onward & Upward

forget fast. you have cheap, reliable, and fast...pick two! I would say pick cheap and reliable, but thats your call. I would recommend a cavlier or focus. Getting around at your age is more important then getting there fast. That and with gas at 4 bucks a gallon, and the only way you are going to get fast is old mustang/camero its going to break a lot and you won't have the cash for parts(let alone if you not mechanical and have to pay for it).

Get a BMW E30, like an 86 325e or an M3 - you'll love it! I also doubt it'll run you much more than $3K... that is if you can find one. It's also very mod-friendly, give you some room to tinker around with the car and learn some more about them.
