  1. Any 2,5" SATA 5400rpm HDD will work, but I don't recommend getting the cheapest brand. Get Western Digital or Seagate. These are very good, reliable brands.

  2. get a good cheap usb external made by either Western Digital or Maxtor. They are not as fast as the internals, but they are far bigger and cheaper, and the vast majority of your data will be video, game demos, photos and music which you don't need the speed of an internal drive for. Besides that, you will still be able to use your original internal drive without having to constantly get the screwdriver out to swap the internal drives back and forth.

The only thing you would need the speed of an internal drive for would be downloadable full games from playstation store, and there aren't 40gb of those in the entire thing. Even Warhawk and Gran Turismo 5 prologue are under 1 gb each. So you won't have any problem fitting everything on your internal drive that needs to be there.

  3. I just came across a site that sends you a Playstation 3 for free! I'm ordering mine right now.
