I want to get a new lense for my Nikon D60. I currently have a 18-55 zoom lense and its a great lense but I want it to have more zoom. I shoot mostly nature shots so i need a good zoom. I also want it to have a wide aperture. So what's a good lense to get?

I also don't want it to be toooo pricey maybe like no more then 500

  1. The 70-300mm AFS VR lens is pretty good, but not particularly fast (wide aperture). It's just under your $500 limit, though.

The VR helps a lot with stationary subjects, but isn't as helpful for bird-in-flight pictures.

The old 70-300 non-VR lens isn't nearly as good, but it's much much cheaper.

  2. You need to decide how important the distance you want is and how important the quality of the lens. Nikon's 70-200 F2.8 telephoto is the best for what you appear to be talking about, but its $1500+.. You can get zoom lenses for under $200, but I don't think they will be the quality you are looking for.

  3. I don't think you are going to find a quality 500mm zoom for under $500...I have the Nikon AF 55-200 with VR and it was $250.00, once you get into the telephoto range the prices jump drastically....go to this website, this guy has some fantastic hints on good lenses and tips for shooting.... http://www.kenrockwell.com/....I had the Nikon D40x and now am working with the Nikon D300 and love it... good luck
