  1. First let me say that you would be much happier with LCD than plasma tv and he's why.  For one, LCD cost less and last longer.

Don't just take my word for it; check out what Consumer's Reports has to say about it.

Check this one out and see what you think.  It's only $1,099.  It is one of the best on the market.  It's a Sony 40in.

  2. For $1200, you should be able to get a nice 40 inch HDTV, either LCD or Plasma.  Make sure that you shop around to find a good model that you will like for a long time!

  3. Samsung - 50" 720p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV

    Model: PN50A450

This is a good choice and it is on sale now at BestBuy for $1149.99.  This model is if you don't need 1080 HD resolution, but it does have up to 720 HD resolution and you can use it without HD if you so desire.

If you have a significant amount of lighting that would reflect off the screen, I highly recommend you go with an LCD instead of plasma.  LCD is much sharper and does much better without the glare of lights.  Plasma, on the other hand has somewhat richer colors.  LCD will probably last longer.

Also, plasma TVs get pretty warm (hot) compared to LCD TVs, and because of this, plasma TVs usually have fans to cool them, which can be distracting during quiet scenes and moments of your TV viewing.

As for brands, Samsung is one of the top leaders and for getting the most bang for your buck, Samsung is at the top.  Most Samsung models compared to equally configured brands (Sony, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, Pioneer, etc.) is less expensive and usually better quality, features, and innovation.  Samsung researches, develops, and makes most of their own parts; and in fact, makes the parts for most other TV and monitor brands.

  4. Do go for these types of schemes.  You will end up having to buy something.  Nothing is for free, especially a plasma tv.

But yes, a lcd tiv is usually a better pick than a plasma tv.  40 inches is good.

What I was referring to above (schemes) appears to have been removed...disregard.
