What would be a good substitution for snow?

If you want to jump in to it then water is the best but if you want to build a jump then you can use a hard plastic rug and make sure it is wet. Grass is also good for slowing you down.

If you want something to turn on, well, if you have ever been to a chair lift that plastic triangles they put on the floor work well to.
