What would be a good surprise birthday party theme?

My mom is turning 37 years old and I am throwing a s uprise party for her. She has the largest variety friends in age and interest. What would be a good party theme ad some party ideas as well. It can be any time of the day, and any theme too. We'd like to keep it at our house or somewhere less expensive. Have you thrown a surprise party? If so do you have any ideas? PLEASE HELP!!!

Does your mom and her friends enjoy playing card games?  If so, you could do a card playing themed party.  They make all kinds of things/accessories for Texas Hold'em Poker but it doesnt just have to be poker.  Can be spades, rummy, gin, hearts, whatever they like to play.  I threw my husband a surprise Texas Hold'em tournament party.  Instead of people bringing gifts I asked them to bring a dish of food and everybody paid $10 or $20 to play in the poker tournament.  It was a lot of fun!

    buffet(her fav foods)...invite friends she has lost touch with

    through the years....dancing....last opening gifts.  let it be a surprise...do not let her do any work that day.
