My mile time in April was 9 min 21 seconds. Right now I run twice a day around my basement for a total of 1 hr. I will start swimming every sunday for 45 minutes. I don't have a treadmill or a stationary bike, but I do have a stationary bike and an 8 pound weight. What can I do to improve my mile time and endurance?

  1. You don't need running equipment or a gym membership to get faster-- the world is your gym! Run outside or go to a track at your school in the mornings or something. For most tracks, 4 times around is one mile. Or, find a mile route you can run in your neighborhood. Run it everyday of the week with a few "rest days" where you can skip it, like Sunday, Wednesday, Friday. On your rest days, do an ab workout and lift with your 8 lb weight.

  2. Start running around town not in your basement.

  3. Four minutes is a lot to do at once try to get to a seven minute mile first. You can do this by just running alot. Im a soccer player and i can run a seven minute mile anytime i want and im just in basic good shape beside my legs. so if you run a lot you should be able to get to a seven minute mile easy. after that you should do some strenght training to get faster then you could get to a six minute mile. I have never ran a five minute mile so i don't know how you could get that far. I guess you just have to work you entire body everyday then i guess you could bust your *** and get a five minute mile. but thats even hard for the good athletes.
