the conditions there are cold, very windy and exposed. So hardiness is a MUST. If you're including Latin names, please also give me the English.

  1. Whatever you choose, let it be native to Scotland as very little is left of the original forest cover in Scotland. Something like silver birch, scot's pine, or rowan should be fine. Give them a handful of acorns to plant too, you never know they might grow into great trees despite the wind.

  2. I say better than a tree  where ever you live UK/Ireland

and easy to manage  the three currant bushes

    RED             Currants

    BLACK              ""

    WHITE               ""

Brill to eat as a nibbles      great Ice sorbets  Brill Tarts

Black  known to have as hot drink when you have a heavy cold

If you want to add more Three Raspberry bushes uses as above

These  fruits have a very short shop shelf life  and red and whites seldom seen at all  and very costly in supermarkets  another one to include  Blueberry  but these you really need to study first as there are many sub breeeds for all different uses ,cooking/freezing/eating raw

  3. there's an absoloute must for any windy garden and that's the tamarix... it's an amazing tree , bends right to the ground in the wind and bounces right back up !!!! it's got a frond like leaf , with yellow , pink or white flowers , which are quite feathery in appearance , it's lovely ... i'm on the south east of ireland , we get the wind and the sea and this is the best tree in the garden... give it a bit of space tho.. it can get quite big..

  4. Silver birch as it lives in siberia, sea buckthorn, weeping willow or a conifir

It must have narrow leaves as big leaves resist the wind and don't want to let the wind through the tree.

    Mountain ash might be okay

  5. Scot's Pine - Pinus sylvestris

  6. contact one of the garden centres on the west coast and ask them for advice

try Dobbies - they are well placed in Scotland
