What would be a great project on Physics?

We have been thinking of projects on Physics, but it seems most of our ideas are taken. These includes the rides at an amusement park, usage of the law of reflection, and electricity. Can you name a project on Physics that is unique, great, advanced and not expensive for a high school student?

  1. You know when James Bond in The Man with the Golden Gun jumped off a bridge and span the car in the air?

Try to do its calculations and get a toy car and design a bridge and try to make it do that. I did it. It´s really hard trust me! It has a lot of ballistics calculations.

  2. Here is one suggestion, it is not advanced but it does require care of method!

Use a series of carefully taken photographs to measure the rotation rate of the Moon. If you take one photograph every hour for about three or four hours you will be able to compare major crater displacement versus time.  If the photographs are digital ones, then you can use a computer to supper-impose them and, thus, measure displacement versus time for the Moon's features. You should find a rotation rate of about 0.5 degrees per hour (the rotation period of the Moon is 27.321582 d (synchronous) or 360 degrees/(27.321582 x24) degrees per hour )! It will be important that you 'frame' each photo exactly the same as the last one and furthermore that you use careful timing. You will need a digital camera with time exposure (1 second should do), a tripod, a computer with an art package, and a good wrist watch plus depending where you live some luck with the weather. I expect that you will need several 'shots' at your photo session to refine your methods.

    Good luck.

  3. I think that the urge to overcome the transportation's questions with petrol dependency may give you an open field academically and later on the work market, on both electric propulsion and accumulators, and internal combustion engines efficiency! :) That's something we need to have our best brains working on! ;)
