  1. 1. the kids got kicked out of school.

    2. the kids were being bullied.

    3. the parents didn't like the way their kids were being taught.

  2. I don't think there are any reasons people have to be homeschooled... I know a lot of reasons why people want to homeschool, but can't think of a single reason why anyone might be required to do so.

  3. What reasons would someone have to be public schooled? Meaning a problem in homeschool that couldn't be fixed.

Public school is not a default decision. Homeschooling has many benefits for children and youth that cannot be found in other schooling.

Meanwhile, to the homeschool hating Wildcat: Shunned????? Why would homeschooled kids be shunned? What kind of freaky attitude is that? It isn't as though when our kids go to the skate rink or the mall, the other kids throw rocks at them and spit. Is this sort of fear of being excluded what you are learning in public school?

  4. Would have to, like that's the only option?

Very few reasons that a student would *have to* be homeschooled, outside of health reasons or getting kicked out of school.

However, students *choose* to be homeschooled for many reasons - schools aren't meant to cater to every single kid.  Not everyone learns well in a classroom environment, and not everyone cares to deal with the drama, distractions, and kids that really don't want to be there.  Some kids just prefer to be "let loose" to learn at their own speed.

And, quite frankly, while there are a lot of good schools out there, there are also a lot of schools that are pretty bad - meaning dangerous, mediocre, and/or vastly underfunded.  And with the NCLB requirements...sheesh, many teachers are barely allowed to even truly teach anymore, at least past about 3rd or 4th grade.

  5. I'm really not sure but I think that kids should go to school I mean they just become so shuned from the outside world theywon't know anyone.I personally think its a terrible idea.

  6. Our child attended two very highly rated private schools.  In the first school, she had an abusive teacher who left her suicidal at the ripe old age of eight.

At the second school a classmate tried to murder her.

We took a look at the public schools (we live in one of the top districts in the country) and found: sexual abuse by teachers, a teacher who hosted a drinking party, a principal who quit when publicly threatened by a teacher, and a math teacher who quit because he could no longer teach advance math to students who had been rushed through the elementary grades to the point where they did not know the basics.

  7. That are lots of reasons why families chose to homeschool there chlidren, but there are not very many answers why they have to be homeschooled. Some reasons that children are homeschooled could be that the schools are not very good, the children are not learning as much as they should be, drugs, violence, harassment, getting exspelled, pregnancy, some children dont work good in a large enviorment, there are lots of reasons why people are homeschooled. Some times people do sports such as gymnastics or ice skating at the elite or olympic level and its just easier to be homeschooled.

  8. Any of the problems could be fixed ... but will they?

Parents/children may have a problem with any of the following...

    1) drugs in the school

    2) discipline problems (with the child or school at fault)

    3) what agenda is being pushed in the curriculum

    4) the fact that the schools are controled by the gov't

    5) the lunch served taste like cardboard

OK i threw #5 for a laugh, but the list could go on and on

  9. We did not have to have a reason to pull our kids out of public school. They have never been in public school. We had many reasons for making this decisions. Among them were:

    - Wanting to teach our children the truth from a Godly perspective.

    - Desire to provide social interaction in a real world context.

    - Attempt to protect our family from the sickness and violence that we see in many schools these days.

Other reasons have arisen through the years enough to write a book on the subject.

  10. (said in my zen voice)

    There are no unfixable problems....

    (back to regular)

We all have choices. Each one of my children are homeschooled for a different reason, and not one of them has to do with religion (bwahahaha...I had to throw that in there lol)

Oldest: because the school would not push him to his full potential

Next: because the school would not educate themselves about her specific needs (generalized all autism disorders together)

Next: because she has anxiety disorders and needed time to mature before being expected to face so much turmoil and craziness (and trust me, 1st grade with 30 kids is all kinds of crazy)

Next: because she is very artistic and resented being told her art was 'wrong' (which they did every day, skies aren't purple, you can't color outside the lines, etc etc. They didn't not appreciate her giving a lesson in art history about Dali either)

Next: because the school was convinced my son was adhd and couldn't learn without drugs (lo and behold, he's fine)

Next: because the older five kids were already homeschooled, why would I ship him off so he missed all the fun?

  11. There are many reasons parents choose to homeschool.  There might be behavioral problems with the child, there might be bullying, etc..

However, mostly I've seen parents homeschool when they disagree with the curriculum being taught, for whatever reason; some have religious differences, and some believe the school isn't teaching well enough.

  12. some of my cousins are home schooled coz their parents are v. religious and dont want them to learn anything like darwin .... which personally i think is out of order coz they should be able to make an informed choice.... but i guess it could be a reason.

  13. Schools are largely inefficient, limited in scope, and boring as heck.  They are grossly outdated with regards to current society and needs.  IMHO they serve as nothing more than a way to keep our young adults out of the workforce, steeped in vanity, and consumerism.

  14. Repeated bullying (by students and/or by teachers), sexual harrassment, sexual assault, getting in with the wrong crowd, slipping through the cracks, medical issues and not really getting an education at school could all be reasons a parent might feel they have to homeschool their child.

  15. If someone were pregnant and having difficulties or had major injuries from a car wreck or even just having a lot of anxiety they could be home schooled, but there are a lot of other reasons also, too many to list.

  16. disciplinary issues, mental issues, health issues, or just wanting to stay home.
