What would be a safe way to get rid of Japanese beetles that won't harm?

the hummingbirds? Both want to set up housekeeping in my Rose of Sharon bushes.

The best way to get rid of Japanese beetles is to knock them off into soapy water.  They will drown.  Don't use insecticides, as they will kill the hummingbirds, plus the beetles' hard shells will protect them.  Do not use the beetle bags that are sold.  They use pheromones that will attract every darn beetle to your yard.  Good luck and enjoy the hummies!
