What would be a very nice memorable gift for one of my favorite grammar school teachers who is retiring?

If possible, go to her retirement party and spend a little time with her. Tell, or write, her how much she meant to you and what some of your favorite memories of her are. As a teacher, it always means more to me to know that I made an impact (even a small one) on the life of a student. Believe me, she'll be beyond words to know you still remember and think about her.

There IS life after retirement.  Give her something she can use, think of her hobbies and what she will be doing after retirement.  Maybe a basket of scrapbooking materials, a golf club, a gas card (lol) on second thought a pair of walking shoes, a Bible in large print, whatever you think she will like.  You will enclose a card or letter of sentiment, but the gift needs to be about her future.

Dear Amy,

The best gift is one that lasts and has meaning for both of you.  I was lucky enough to have a picture of my favorite teacher and me to frame and give to her.  After that, I kept in touch (possibly the best gift of all).  I wrote letters and called on her, sharing my life as it went along.

When I retired from engineering, I taught high school for two years.  For me, the most cherished students are the ones who stay in touch.

Could you get a autograph album (booklet with small pages) and get all those taught by this teacher to sign in it and write something appreciative in it.

You could write an introduction to it, thanking the teacher for all her input over the time you have known him/her.

It would mean so much to the teacher in retirment to look back on.
