What would be an appropriate amount of money to give to a high school graduate?

  1. $50 - $100 - depending on how close you feel to the 'friend', and perhaps what sort of accomplishments her daughter achieved in high school.  

    Much also depends on what sort of 'economic' circle you float in as well . . . :-).  

    If you are not really sure, be prepared to do $50, then take along a gas gift card to have handy (for like $20).  That way, you're covered in case you feel like your $50 is not adequate - and everyone appreciates a gas gift card these days!

  5. I would stick with $50-$100 depending on your own financial situation.  (If you are really hurting, at least $20.)  I had to laugh at the answer that said pay them a few thousand dollars.  Maybe from my parents, but certainly not from a friend of the family.
