  1. We do this all the time, I'd say $30 a day for 2 people if you eat a light breakfast like cereal and milk, oatmeal, or fruit and yogurt. Usually we do snacks and sandwiches for lunch and bbq some kind of meat for dinner with a salad. You can get a burgers and chicken for the bbq and buns are cheap. If you don't want to buy full size bottles of condiments you can go to 7-11 or mcdonalds and just buy something small and get a few extra mustard and ketchup packets. I do the same for sugar and creamer for my coffee. We stay at motel that has a kitchenette and I usually go to trader joe's as soon as we hit town to stock up. It's a great way to make the vacation really cheap. You can also buy premade food from a deli at Ralph's or Henry's grocery stores. You can get a whole rotisserie chicken or fried chicken and some side dishes, this is also inexpensive. We usually take a cooler to the beach and fill it with fruit, hummus and crackers, just easy to eat small stuff. Even better if you drive there, which we often do, you can just bring a cooler in the car of your own food from home.

  2. If you stay in hotel with kitchen featuring microwave, stove, and refrigerator for 2 adults can vary greatly depending what you eat.  Continental breakfast involving mmuffins and bagels or cereal and fruit is always easy, healthy and inexpensive.  If you do sandwiches and salads for lunch;  you can do various things for Dinner.  If you only cook yourself, I would go with about $300 - $400.  Could be more depending on what you buy and eating habits.  Eating out for 2 adults, fast food for breakfast and lunch with a meal at a chain restaurant (Olive Garden, Chili's) about $100 a day.

We usually purchase grocieries when we get there, for a day or two at a time from local grocers and markets.  You can do as cheaply as you like or as expensive.

  3. Living in San Diego, I would recommend that you try to stay at a location that has a kitchenette. The average cost for a reasonable breakfast if you are dining out would be about $6.00 X 2 plus tip. For Lunch you can sneak by with a reasonable lunch at one of the fast food location and the cost is about $10-12 dollars no tip. For dinner this can be a challenge I would suggest that you go to a local store or farmers market, we have all the time and choose an economical meal, if you elect to dine out for dinner I would go to Denny's or a restaurant such as that and share a meal, they usually give you quite a bit of food. Enjoy your visit.
