My daughter who is 16 went out to dinner with some of her karate instructors and other people who do karate 2 nights ago She was the only "kid" there but one of her instructors was just great and looked out for her. Stopped the other adults from giving her beer, did not let her play quarters or have any alchoal. Kept the conversations clean. But it wasn't just this night she has been watching out for my daughter for 8. What would be an apropriate gift?

  1. I would thank the instructor they didn't look out for your daughter expecting a gift, they were just being a responsible adult obviously unlike the rest of the adults there. You are fortunate that she watched out for your child's well being, but I would seriously rethink letting her go out with the group, the instructor amy not always be there to watch over her and it seems like the other adults need to grow up and be more responsible.

  2. There are cell phones you can get for your kids that have GPS tracking built in.  You can get on to the web and see where the cell phone is at any time.  I think Disney puts this out.

  3. A thank you card that is blank on the inside.  You can write a short personal note of thanks inside.

As for the rest of the instructors they certainly sound like a very undisciplined group of people!  Their behavior doesn't seem to reflect a martial arts attitude of physical and moral purity. Did they actually want to offer alcholic beverages and swap off color stories with a 16 year old? I'd consider if I wanted my 16 year old to remain in that type of learning environment or look for a better place for instruction.

  4. I would suggest writing a note to the instructor. I also would suggest not letting your daughter go out with these people.
