Question:

What would be better...2x 9500 mtx 12" to a mtx 4001D amp OR 2x 8500 mtx 12" to a mtx 4001D? Do i need a cap?

At The moment i have 2x 6000 12" mtx hooked up to a Fusion Jonah Lomu #11 4x140rms Amp.

One sub has finally blown after 7 years of torture but now want to go bigger and better.

I would like to go all Fusion or MTX but those Kicker L7 are one of my favourites too!

I have looked high and low on the net for cheaper Fusion products but i have had little sucess, Any recommendations?

I am looking at a MTX amp - the 4001D Or a Kicker ZX1500.1

Would these sub be able to run 2 x MTX 8500 12" OR 2 x MTX 9500 12" OR 2 x Kicker 12" L7 Solo Baric OR 2 x Fusion 12" PowerPlant OR 2 x Fusion NV Series 12".

What would you recommend?

Would i need a capacitor?

And if i run a capacitor, can i run my stereo without the motor on?

What is better - Dual 4 Ohm / Dual 2 Ohm / Single Voice Coil???

Can you hook up 2 x 4 Ohm Dual Voice Coils into 4 Ohm?

Can i mount an amp infront of my subs or is it not recommended?

  1. from all those, the L7's with a ported box with the right tuning will be your best choise.

regarding the amp question, this mainly depends on what voice coil ohm configuration you go with. alot of amps are not 1 ohm stable, there for (2) 4 ohm dvc subs will not be a good choice if the amp is not stable @ 1 ohm.

also, to choose the right amp, you first need to decide what sub to get. i would not belive all those subs you named have the same rms watts recomendation.

about the capacitor... they are not a battery, its really just a waste of money. they work for a very short time and will damage your amplifier(s). the funcion they have is to try and regulate the current flow.

would you need one? this really depends on your vehicle too. some trucks come with alternators that are rated at high amps. and other cars, specially old ones, have the alternator rated at very low amps.

what i would do.. if i was to keep that vehicle for a long time and plan on later on add more stuff to it... i would save some cash and spend on a H.O. alternator, the biggest one made for your vehicle. because if you spend on a medium size H.O. Alt, you might still have problems so its better to just go big at first and not have to worry about it.

another thing about the electrical system, upgrade the Big3. its better if you use the thickest cable you can get, preferably 1/0 gauge or 0 gauge. this will allow a much better flow of power through out the vehicle. because think about it... all these cars are not build with thick cables needed for the huge amount of power been pulled from the battery and alt by the amp.

oh, almost forgot... you might be able to run the system for some time while its off.. but it will only drain the batt and can damage it if its left to go dead and recharge, then left to go dead again and recharge and so on. if you do want to play your system loud with the motor off... you will need to add a couple of big batteries but it will just get too expensive, and a capacitor will not help neither.

to hook up (2) 4 ohm dvc subs, check this link.

but it will be much better to hook them up to 1 ohm load. you will need a huge amp to get 1000 watts rms @ 4 ohms.

i would recommend you looking at class-D mono block amplifiers since these mostly are 1 ohm stable and run cooler.

about amp placement, if your subwoofers do not create too many vibrations then install it close to the subs. but if they create alot of vibrations, place it a bit far from them. because the vibrations will work their way to the inside of the amp and with time, stuff will start to loosen and will damage your amp. its just not worth it.

good luck man, and fuse all the + power wires to stay away from fires.
