  1. Between the 2 there wouldn't be that big of a difference on insurance at age 16 so go with the more economical one

  2. The opel will be cheaper - be careful of course about lack of safety equipment in that car.

  3. The opel should still be cheaper to insure because it is significantly older than the blazer.

  4. Since you are only 16, you need to be insured on your parent(s)' insurance policy since you are too young to sign a contract - and an insurance policy IS a contract.

If you are going to insure for liability only - either vehicle SHOULD be the same price.  Now, some companies might NOT want to insure the '73 Opel Manta as they may feel that it is too old to meet safety requirements.

But then you have to look at the "cool" factor!  My son had a '72 Opel GT - now THAT'S cool!

Good luck, drive RESPONSIBLY and I hope this helps!

  5. Generally with vehicles of that age the liability coverage would be about the same.  We switch out cars all the time and the premium does not change if the are liability only.

  6. Call your insurance company...they should tell you.

  7. This is a really smart question to ask; insurance can be so expensive especially for teen drivers.

There are a number of places online where you can get immediate quote.  Try geico.com (ask parents first, duh, cuz they ask for birthdates and lots of personal information)

just because you get your initial quotes there, you can still shop around for the best rate.  We use amica insurance for everything and their rates are good and their customer service is excellent. You probably can get the best deal from the company that has your parents' auto policies already.

  8. The opel is worth maybe a few 100 bucks.  The blazer 1000's of bucks.  Clearly the opel.  You couldnt need to have full coverage because if the teen crashed it, its not worth fixing anyway.

    I would pick the opel.

  9. The liability would be the same on both vehicles. Neither would need comp or collision unless they are financed. Even though you might think the Blazer would need the coverage it's value is only $2000 - $2500; at your age you'd spend that much on comp and collision over a couple of years so it's not cost effective.

Actually, depending upon the condition the Opel might be worth more than the Blazer. It's at the classic auto age.
