  1. The Remington Model 870 pump is great in 20 or 12 gauge.  It is easier also to mount a scope on an 870 than on say a side-by-side shotgun, even though I have no idea why you would want to mount a scope on a shotgun.  The 870 is available in a 'deer-hunter' model that comes with a rifled 22" barrel and rifle sights.  This is the model you should consider if you really want a scope on your shotgun.  I'm not sure it is available in 20 gauge in this configuration, though.  Ask your dealer.  Last note:  Shotguns with rifled barrel are intended to shoot sabot slugs only.  Shot and even plain slugs will just lead the barrel very rapidly.

  2. You can't go wrong with either a Mossberg or Remington pump.  Either can be found on sale often at Dunham's, *****, Gander Mountain or Sportsman's Warehouse.  If you are slug hunting, a scope is preferred.  Modern 20ga slugs are good for 150+ yards.  I wouldn't want to be stuck with factory iron sights at that range.

  3. Mossbergs are pretty inexpensive and OK quality, a starter gun. The next step would be a remington, and then berettas. I would go for pumpaction or Over-Under if you're in the lower range - cheap semi's tend to be cheaply built. OU's tend to be lightly more expensive, but are more accurate.

You really don't need a scope unless you plan to use a slug (and even then...it's questionable). I say skip the scope, use

the money to buy a better gun

I said beretta - thinking benelli

  5. Hi Tim, Browning is the best all around shot gun for the novice and for the price, Remington is a little more expensive but worth every penny, Mossberg are probably the best and most expnsive, because they are german, and everybody knows germans are genius. (example:mercedes) ps. son, no man has ever put a scope on a shotgun. the range is not far enough to need one.

  6. Remington has the exact package you want:
