  9. boy or girl?

  10. i try to get my son to read the classics such as white fang and he likes adventure books.

  11. depends  on what he/she likes  my 12 year old sis in law is into the hardy boys series right now, i have a cousin reading on the goosebumps series,  im just trying to think of ones that havent been listed here already, theres some pretty good ones there already.

  12. Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy written by Ally Carter

The Fortunes of Indigo Skye written by Deb Caletti

  13. s*x for dummies?

  14. Depends on how advanced his or her reading skills are.  Personally, I enjoyed The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy at around that age.  It's a good scaffolding choice because most of the words and concepts could be understood by a child, but some would require help from an adult which gives the child an opportunity to learn.

The fact that it's funny and not dull and overly dramatic will also help to inspire the child to read.  It's a nice break from the ten thousand Lord Of The Ring / Harry Potter magical fantasy adventure books that seem to dominate children's literature these days.

  15. Great ones that are age appropriate are:

A Tree Growns in Brooklyn (My fave)

    Huckleberry Fin

    Grapes of Wrath

    To Kill a Mocking Bird

    Of Mice and Men (awesome)
