BEST,,,, INDEPENDANT STUDY.  Work to do an independant study with Autodesk Maya 8.5.  You can get the Personal Learning Edition, which is a special version of Maya 8.5, that provides free access to Maya 8.5 for noncommercial use.  It has all the features to do intergrated 3D modeling, animation, and rendering solution.

    Check out www.autodesk.com/maya.

Independant studies allow you to work with a faculity advisior, and basically design your own course for credit.  Face it, nothing is better than face time on the software, and even a simple project in 3D animation will impress most adult advisors.  Pick an old one, who thinks they still draw cartoons.

Oh,,, and last course to take for computer animation in the gaming industry,,,, home ecconomics,,,, learn how to get by on little or no money.  With every kid in the free world wanting to get into the computer game business, people are a dime a dozen.

Find a real career, that pays the bills, and make games for a hobby or on a contract basis in the summer.  Or,,,, figure out how to animate in the real world for marketing and advertising.

  2. Visual Communication, IT.

Depends what course you want to get into? A course dedicated to animation/gaming, or a broader design course with the opportunity to learn about that area, as well as other aspects of the design industry? My ex bf wants to do the same thing, and is studying Industrial Design, in high school he studied: Vis Comm, Studio Arts, Physics, Maths and English, but then again, he was aiming at Product Design/Engineering at the time.
