  1. if here for 6 months you would be taxed at the rate of your own country as you have to be here for a year to be considered a UK resident for tax purposes.

what country do you live in and that will tell you what tax you pay.

Derby is a cheap place you can rent a 4 bed house in vgc fro 1100 pcm or less.

  2. If you are in the UK and earning from a UK employer you will pay UK tax. The residence point above is incorrect.

On £42k gross your monthly net salary will be about £2,900 after £259 tax and £335 NI, assuming you are entitled to a full year's UK personal allowance. As you are only working for 6 months this may be skewed a little - you may pay more tax at the start but should be able to claim it back at the end.

Cost of living in Derby - i'd imagine you could rent a one-bedroom flat for about £400-£500 a month, will monthly bills on top about £150 a month and food/transport of about £200 a month. Thus approx £800 in total but this completely depends on your lifestyle.
