I really want one and don't waste your time saying "Oh my god get a cat dumb**s" What do they eat and need for a safe living environment?

If the zoo can do it, I can too!

  1. "If the zoo can do it, I can too!"

What kind of qualifications and education do you have that makes you believe that you are as qualified as a zoo to provide the type of care needed for an endangered species??

Zoologists have to go through YEARS of university in a variety of different subjects, not just biology.

There is no argument that the platypus is an incredible and unique creature, but these creatures are best left in the wild.  The general public does not have the means to provide the type of care needed to keep this animal healthy and very few zoos can provide it either.

Why not simply take a trip to Australia and see these animals in one of the few zoos privileged to keep this mammal?

  2. You will have to buy a zoo in Australia.

    Legal protection

Until the early twentieth century, platypus were widely killed for their fur. The species is now protected by law throughout Australia.

    Platypus in captivity

Platypus are wild animals with specialised living requirements. It is illegal for members of the public to keep them in captivity. A platypus which has been accidently captured along a stream or found wandering in an unusual place should never be taken home and treated as a pet, even for a brief time. The animal will not survive the experience.

Only a small number of Australian zoos and universities hold permits to maintain platypus in captivity for legitimate display or research purposes. Current Australian government policy does not allow this species to be taken overseas for any reason.

  3. You're talking about an endangered species--not able to be 'owned' by anyone other than a zoo or temporarily taken care of by a wildlife rehabber.

It's completely unlikely that you'd ever have the opportunity to touch one much less 'own' one, even if you're employed by a zoo.

  4. dear

zoo have a big place,u have?

zoo have a good enviroment for them, you have?

zoo kept lion and tiger also,do you wanna kept?

zoo spend a lot of money for them, can you do that too?

zoo know all of the need that animal want,do you know?

if all of of the answer is yes, then you can kept that platypus

  5. zoos spend a lot of time and money to get licenses to keep these animals in captivity, and still have to follow strict rules. you will find that not a lot of zoos have platypi because they are an endagered species. not only is it illegal to keep wild animals as pets, its also illegal to disturb endangered animals. the only way you could get a platypus would be to cath one from the wild, which is also illegal. if you want an exotic pet, consider coatimundis, pot-bellied pigs, or flying squirrels
