  1. That's sort of small for a Monohull for 4 people if they are all adults... so the Multihull may be more roomy for that many people.  My sailboat is 38 feet and there is just me and at times, it's too small when I'm living on it for 7 months every year in the Caribbean

  2. A self-righting monohull.

  3. Different makes of monohulls vary drastically in their sailing characteristics as do multihulls.  Some of both are great choices for blue water sailing including circumnavigations some of both would be very bad choices.   You simply can't say one is better or safer. You need to compare a specific boat of each.

Some Catamarans such as Catalac Catamarans have not only never tipped over, but nobody has ever claimed the award by the company for having one hull come out of the water.  The idea that catamarans are prone to tipping over and night righting, is based on experince with a few models and is not at all representative of well designed blue water cruisers.   There are also many examples of supposedly self righting monohulls rolling over and sinking fast.

Also, boat choice is only one of the factors to be considered in safety.  Outfitting, choice of crew, decision making and route planning are all important safety considerations.

  4. It is all deep water> But land is only less than 1 mile away the entire trip>  Straight down> Mono hull>

  5. A full-keel monohull sailboat with keel-stepped masts.

  6. i don't think it makes a differents, it is the knowledge and capacility of the captain, one boat is a little faster than the other, but again it depends on the who's in charge
