What would be some good books for a child who want to learn more about African American heritage?

She is half African American. She wants to learn more about her heritage. What are some good books for her? She is 10 years old.

Look, I am not from the United States thus I am not very familiarized with the african american literature, but what I can recommend you is to buy some books of African cultures, like the Nubian empire and its influence in the egiptian culture for example.

Teach her how big and powerful was the nubian culture, teach her how this people,  proud black warriors even ruled Egipt for 300 hundred years.

Give her information about the african cultures and make her proud to be black.

Avoid giving her stuff about slavery and racism, she is not going to understand that part of history yet, first you have to set a strong base of selfsteem of her being black and then you can teach her that part of history.

This is my own point of vew, I hope it´s in some way what you are looking for.
