I guess we are mainly talking about basic reading and writing at this point.

What if someone doesn't want to be literate?

Who is to say who doesn't want to be literate?

If we permit illiteracy are we doing so to keep people under subjugation?

  1. Education ,knowledge and wisdom are three basic need for human being..There comes the reasoning and logical power. For all basic education is necessary. The other aspect is one may be a graduate in agriculture but is not able to know the basic ideas of agriculture. therefore all these are interconnected.

  2. Literacy is intellectual conditioning. The ability to assimilate facts and knowledge to truths, congnisive understanding.

Literacy for the sake of appearing learned, indoctrination, doctoring truths and the educating of minions to opine establishment friendly praise singing is a modern day perverse literacy.

Persons boasting of university educations in the stead of basic earthly common sense ultimately make a mockery of the modern day education institutes.

Literacy is not about how many books you have read, or years you have spent swotting and burning the midnight oil, rather it is measured by the understanding man has gained. The attaining of true emotional, intellectual and spiritual liberty works not in the establishments favour.

The universities spew forth workplace fodder. People educated sufficiently to serve and perform and further the interests not of a theocracy but a democracy, in the negative sense of the word

Ultimately is  a learning process toward conditioning and opening the mind to truth. Truth serves ultimately peace and humanity, the modern day educational system does not.

  3. Literacy is not modern. Since ancient days we learn  to improve our knowledge through sciptures.by hearing.

Modern ways are reading , writting and electronic methods like computers.

Literacy is not a bondage and is the means to understand the self.

The lack of KNOWLEDGE is ignorance.

  4. there are no disadvantages to being literate and no advantages to being illiterate

my belief's in this come from my 18 yr old sister-in-law cant read and says she can use pictures the rest the of her life to get by and will graduate high school with b and c's so that shows you what the world is becoming and i have first hand experience with her being as she has lived with me for a year due to a major family problem where her father tryed to molest her but this is not the cause of her not knowing how to read or write and can not recite her ABC's and has no mental problems

  5. if you are talking about basic reading and writing, it is for the purpose of keeping people in line, which is why mandatory education, in most countries where conditions permit, only goes up to high school.

too much knowledge gives a person full mental independence and makes it difficult for him/her to follow the "rules"

  6. It is easier to convey information to a literate person. Double edged sword--the powers that be will brainwash you with propaganda literature while you learn things on your own. Reading can be a path to self-improvement or a ticket to mind slavery. A choice to be made by the person.
