Question:

What would be the best area to stay in Manila?

I'll be going to the Philippines next year, starting with Manila. I'm looking for a nice guesthouse, hostel or hotel, but I am to the point that I think it's important to choose an area first.

What I would like:

- an area with interesting things to see and do

- places for cheap Philippine food

- nice shops

- Not too noisy and busy with nightlife, I like a good night sleep!

- good public transport to the rest of the city

- a safe feeling

- not too expensive on all accounts

Any suggestions? Thanks :)

  1. i always recommend Ortigas. very accessible to the malls, market, church, transportation is not a problem. very clean and nice. quiet at night. but the hotels their are quite expensive, around $200-250 a day.

  2. Also Check this http://hotels.americacheaphotels.com/Cit... to read about manila hotel details, reviews and near by locations.

  3. I agree with warrior is a child. Ortigas is a good place to stay in since it is near the malls and other shopping centers like greenhills (great place to bargain for pearls!). It's also near bars if you want to grab a drink (less than 10 mins away from Metro Walk). It's not near any historical sights though so you would have to take a cab to Intramuros and other sight seeing spots. You can check out the following hotels which are under US$120:

    Astoria: http://www.astoriaplazasuites.com/

    Richmonde hotel: http://www.richmondehotel.com/

    Linden Suites: http://www.travelmart.net/philippinesort...

If your budget is ok with those within the US$150 to 250 range the follwing are great hotels:

    Discovery Suites: http://discoverysuites.com/main.htm

    Edsa Shangri-La: http://www.shangri-la.com/en/property/ma...

I've been able to try out all the hotels i've mentioned and they're all good.

After Manila, there are a lot more places that you can go to while in the Philippines. If you love the beach, there is cebu, boracay and palawan. If you love mountains, there is baguio and sagada. Just post what your interests are and we'll see if we can come up with more suggestions :) Hope you enjoy your stay here in the Philippines!!

  4. malate is a good place.
