Hello, I would like for my future job to be in literature. I would like to be an author who writes both fantasy, and books about war. I want to go to college and, how do I hit it big? I would like to make a lot of money from writing, but who do I contact? Also, how many years of college will I need? And what will I need to major in? If you answer, I will send you an email with some of my work, and you can tell me what you think if you want.

  1. There are lots of great writers who never "make it big."  Going to college would be a good start, in a creative writing program such as U of Iowa (of all places).  You need to attend writing conferences that are held around the country, you need to write and submit articles, books--whatever--all the time, even when you are in school.  Some people like Nicolas Sparks hit it big the first time.  Others like Martin Cruz Smith took almost ten years to write "Gorky Park."  And many good writers never get recognized.

I would seek out good creative writing programs at colleges, summer programs and institutes (there are many), and keep up with what's going on in the world of writing.  Fantasy has its own circle, as do writers about war topics.
