Question:

What would be the best colors for a summer wedding scheme? I know I want apple red, but after that I'm lost! ?

I'm getting married next summer in July. All my bridesmaids looked great in the apple red, so I want this to be the main color. Other than this, I'm lost! I was playing around with the idea of gold and black as accents. I just don't know how to incorporate these colors into the flowers. I was also thinking about a light green like honeydew as a possible accent. I just don't want it to look like Christmas. Anybody have any suggestions?

  1. Red is a classic wedding color, so kudos on choosing Apple Red!  One of the nicest things about knowing what you want your main color to be is that you can really choose any other color as long as the shade and hue match your main color without clashing.  If you do small amounts of the "honeydew" green, or even a vibrant, almost lime, green I think you can pull it off.  One way to do this would be to have the stems of your bouquets wrapped with white or red ribbon and then have a small, thin ribbon in the green color lace up the stems so that you only get a hint of it as you and your gals walk down the aisle.  If you really want to use gold and black as accents, which you could still include the green if you wanted to, then I'd go with small pops of these colors against the red.  And, when in doubt, leave a color out!  There's nothing worse than having too many colors competing for attention!  It sounds odd, but go to a paint store and find a red sample that closely matches the Apple Red that you want to use.  Then, start pulling other sample cards for other colors you like.  If you like the colors next to each other when you pull paint samples chances are good you'll like them in your wedding also...as long as you make sure to be careful with how much you use your accent color.  Also, consult a color wheel -- you can find them online or in art books or even at the paint store -- so you can see which colors are complimentary and which ones just shouldn't be put together.

    Congratulations and good luck!

  2. Here are some suggestions:

(you can replace white with ivory too)

    Red, white, silver

    Red, white, champagne

    Red, white, gold

Red, white, very light green (but only accents to avoid the Christmas look)

  3. black and white with the red would be bold and classic.

You in white with red flowers

the girls in red with white flowers

the guys in black tuxes, red ties and white flowers

    and decor in the three

  4. black and gold seem to wintery for a summer wedding in my opinion... i do like the red with the light green. why not do a variety of colors since summertime is so vibrant? yellows, oranges, reds, greens...

I think apple red is a great color, but the gold and black seem a bit heavy for a summer wedding. I think honeydew is a really fun color. Any green will look fine as long as it isn't a dark green. Another alternative to apple red, which can seem a bit like fall, is poppy red.

  6. As a florist I think apple red, chocolate brown with just a touch of dark plum would be elegant.  If you were going more vibrant do the apple red with a mix of oranges and yellows.  stay away from most greens as the red/green combo give off the christmas vibe.

  7. I like the idea of the red and gold together, but change out the black for a softer color like an antique cream. Use the cream color for the maids bouquets, with gold ribbons and accents, use red for yours and the remainder of the decorative elements. Golden accent will add to the elegance. Make sure you are using a lighter gold, not a heavy deep shade, so it will pick up the light and reflect it.

If the black is being used as the tuxedo's for the men, definitely stick with that. It's timeless and elegant.

  8. Well in the summertime, you would probably want a bright color or something softer since the red will definitely pop. I would suggest a pastel color. For instance, maybe a periwinkle or a light yellow. For the flowers, you will have plenty of options. If you were to use the yellow it would be nice to have daffodils; as for the periwinkle, you could use hydrangeas.

  9. red is not one of my favorite colors and i really don't like red, white, and black.

but if you want red, an absolutly beautiful color combo is red and chocolate brown with touches of lime green and gold. it's very sophisticated and is very pretty. this would definatly be my choice.

  10. I think if you go with a honeydew (vs an evergreen), that will look really pretty.

red/black/white is also a good combo

    red/chocolate/white

    if you go to www.theknot.com

you can click on red and it will show you what lots of other people have used in their pallete
