I'll be s******g 2x4's into a telephone pole. I plan on using 3" long screws, what diameter should I be using? Also, I'd like to use some bolts, have any suggestions for a size for them?

  1. Do you own the pole? If not I would be asking permission before s******g anything on. Also what kind of load is going to be added to the 2x4s? If it's outside you should use stainless or galvanized screws or bolts.

  2. 1/4"  is a good diameter, but go longer since  the poles will have  very poor surface wood, you'll need at least 4" .

  3. depending on what the 2x4s are intended to do\support, maybe 1/4" galvanized lag screws. if you are mounting them horizontally, there won't be much 'bite' on a round pole. might want to install a mounting block with a concave cutout first.

    Hope that helps.
