Hi, I was just looking for some advice on which dog breed would be most suitable for our family. We are a family of five, my mum dad me [12] my sister [3] and my brother [5]. We already have a dog, a one and a half year old whippet. Me and my mum think that our whippet would benifit from another dog in the household. Are we right to think this? If so, which dog breed would fit us best? If we do get one, When we get him/her they will have to be left 5 days a week for about 4 hours. Thank you!!! x xx

  1. it is always nice to have a companion for your dog. dont get a small dog as small dogs tend to be more nippy and with a 3 and a 5 year old it wouldnt be good.

how about a lab or a springer? they both need a lot of exercise but its worth it coz if they are trained right they are very loving and loyal.

if you train them as puppys to be left on their own then it will be fine

    hope it helps :)

    but they are big dogs

  2. i would reccomend A CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL they are great and good with kids and very easy to train

  3. hiya i would say yes to having another dog i would say another whippet  would be best hope i helped

  4. It is nice for a dog to have a companion & would say either another Whippet or a greyhound... Greyhounds are wonderful dogs, fantastic with children & so many lovely ones in rescues...

  5. i think a golden retriver would be best! =] they r so friendly and CUTE!

  6. Try this website to see shich dog would suit you and your family best

  7. Get another whippet!

Whippets love to run and play with dogs of the same breed.

  8. Well if I were you I wouldn't get a dog that is too big or heavy, as you have a whippet which can be delicate andwoudn't benefit from being bashed around by a larger dog!

There are a few breeds I would highly recommend, and I will tell you a little about them.

Miniature Schnauzer - Are excellent with hcildren and get on with oher dogs especially if introdced to them from an early age. We have a Mini, she is so adorable and friendly and the breed isn't riddled with health problems like some other breeds.

Lhasa Apso - They are very sweet little dogs who are good with children and a managable size.

Miniature Poodle - You may skip past this oe straight away but they are very intelligent little dogs and do not look nearly as strange when they areleft unclipped. Take a look at this pic and you will see the difference. http://kiltakennels.com/images/miniature...

Tibetan Terrier or Tibetan Spaniel - They are both lovely breeds, and they look quite different! Friendly and good with kids, I am told.

All of the breeds listed here are not terriers (apart from the tibetan terrier which contains little to none terrier qualities) and I made sure of that because terriers often don't get along with other dogs.

Also, if you like the breed you couldget another whippet, for a larger version a greyhound (go for rescue) and a smaller version an Italian Greyhound.

You could also consider giving a rescue dog a home.

I hope you find a lovel dog xx I am the same age as you and we only just completed our search ending up with a Mini Schanuzer, we were going to get a Kerry Blue Terrier but me parents thought they weren't good enough with children. It was a shame for me, as I think they are a beautful breed. We also didn't get a Kerry Blue because the only breeder with puppies seemed a bit dodgy, asking us for money before we had seen the dog. Watch out for stuff like that!

  9. it would be a great idea to get another dog as company for your dog! i would go for a breed the same size as you have now as smaller could be a bit nippy! why dint you go round a re-homing centre and have a look?????
