I'm looking to build flexibility, muscle strength and balance. Not really looking to learn how to fight, though I would enjoy the sparing and I can take a knock to the face with a smile.

Suggestions?

  1. If you’re not looking to learn to fight why focus on martial arts at all? I suggest you split your interest here; If flexibility, strength and balance are your goals learn gymnastics. Spar with your buddies.

  2. i've taken lots of different types of martial arts some i would suggest:

    For muscle strength...

kendo or judo (builds  lots of upper body strength)

    balance..

i suggest tae kwon do kung fu or karate, specifically kung fu because there are different types that you can decide on depending on body shape strength speed etc

    for flexibility...

all martial arts need flexibility and they all improve it.. in different parts of your body

if you want to spar for fun, then i suggest kenvert, which is freestyle fighting... you can choose your own type of weapon to master on, similar to kung fu and you apply every type of martial arts you know to win... it's LOTS OF FUN!! but you need to be able to thing quickly on your feet and learn to use your surroundings..i don't know if they have classes for it though... you learn after going through different types of martial arts...

    hope that helped!!

  3. you can build flexibility and body balance in all martial arts and muscle strength also, but if you want to knock a face you'll go karate or muay thai, but if you want to kick a face just go to taekwondo",)

  4. Tai chi or kung fu ( fu jow pai)

  5. If your not interested in fighting then just go for the one with the fairest price.  Maybe you should look at yoga or gymnastics instead.  But if you like the idea of sparring  tae kwon do or free style karate or kickboxing offer a lot of sparring.  Grappling like BJJ has a lot of grappling and that will build muscle strength fast plus stamina. Most classes offer free lessons. I suggest trying them ALL them out.

  6. Tae Kwon Do seems to be good for you.  Sparring occurs regularly in Tae Kwon Do and it's good for flexibility.

  7. Grappling.

  8. mmmm Kickboxing maybe

  9. Check out any traditional martial arts school and go where you feel comfortable.
