  1. It is absoultely not doable.  This is a two hour drive without traffic.  Going up the worst freeway in southern california (5).

You have to decide one or the other.

  2. Torrance and Carlsbad are pretty far away from each other...like 3-4 hours...i have no clue though...sorry..

  3. i live in San Diego and the traffic time going south starts at  6:00 am till 8:am  and going North starts at 6:30 till 9:00am and from 3:30 going south till 5 :00 its stuck most of the time  so check time you got to start to work and traffic +distance +time  good luck but i will definitely move to Carlsbad !! its peaceful place to live

  4. Oh man....

It's doable but it's going to be insane.  Unless these are super good job offers, I wouldn't recommend it at all.

  5. Carlsbad is almost 90 miles from Torrance. There are ways to minimize the impact of this commute, such as toll roads and rideshare lanes, but no matter how good it looks on paper, the traffic is awful. Torrance is in the city, Carlsbad is much more of a beach town. Roughly halfway in between along the coast are places like Costa Mesa, Irvine, Newport Beach, Corona del Mar, Laguna Beach, Mission Viejo, San Clemente, and other cities. These places are expensive, but you would not be commuting as far. The traffic sucks more the farther north you get. The commute to Carlsbad would probably be easier, but because there is only one route, Interstate 5, most of the way, if that route is for some reason obstructed, you're hosed. A lot of people commute this far, some even farther. I have limited myself to 25 miles, and I leave for work no later than 6 am. It takes me 30 minutes, but if I wait even 30 minutes later to leave, my commute time doubles. Take a look at these driving directions from Mapquest and get an idea of where you would be driving and living.
