Praise the lord, I can finally move out of Michigan. I'm looking for a state that meets the following requirements. Can anyone suggest something?

1. Friendly people (not snooty, violent, rednecked or weird as a rule)

2. Mild winters

3. Fairly stable economy (any place has to be better than MI), preferable some industry.

4. lots of fun things to do.

5. liberal leaning

6. country life available

7. Mountains?

8 MUST HAVE ACCESS TO WATER (ocean or inland lakes and streams)

  1. I suggest Virginia. That's where I live. I live in southwest VA though, so the redneck factor and the lots of fun things to do factor don't really work around here, but Northern VA is a different story. Such as near Charlottesville or Richmond or Harrisonburg...they are kinda urban/country. You don't have to go far to find things to do and you aren't far at all from Virginia Beach as well as realatively close to major cities such as D.C., New York, and Philly. It's a place rich in history and that part of the country is famous for its mountains and especially during the fall when the leaves change. As for nice people, that's subjective, but everywhere I've been in the state, everyone is really nice for the most part, but you know how that can vary between urban and rural neighborhoods.

  2. Well, my friend, WASHINGTON STATE has got all you are lookin' for!

1.Friendly people (not snooty, violent, rednecked or weird as a rule):

I'm nice, and I live here.

    2. Mild winters:

Seattle rarely has bad snowfall, and most snow stays in the mountains.  The eastern side of the state is desert, with very hot summers and low snow accumulation.

    3. Fairly stable economy (any place has to be better than MI), preferable some industry:

Consistantly listed as one of the best states to open a business.   Home of Microsoft.  Google, Amazon and Boeing have Seattle offices, and of course Starbucks.  Engineering is a big industry in eastern washington.

    4. lots of fun things to do:

Live music is big in Washington.  Camping, Hiking, Skiing, Boating, the Space Needle, EMP (Experience Music Project Museum), Underground Tour, Wild Waves, Gasworks Park, Historic Pioneer Square, Waterfall Garden park, Pike Place Market, and many many Concerts .

    5. liberal leaning:

Evergreen State College & Western Washington University.

    6. country life available:

Take yer' self a gander at north-eastern washington, cowboy.

    7. Mountains?

Oh, yes, all within 20 minutes of Seattle!  And Skiing too.

8 MUST HAVE ACCESS TO WATER (ocean or inland lakes and streams):

Puget sound and Pacific Coast.  Of course, there are numeorus lakes and rivers, including Columbia River and the Columbia River Gorge.
