I have a concrete slab on the down-slope side of my duplex. The slab extends from the rear of the house out to the front onto a drive way. About five feet forward from the rear of the house there is a dip that lets water run over the edge and onto my neighbor's property. I'm wondering if there is a material I could trowel onto the existing concrete and smooth it out, to build it up an inch or two and get rid of the dip so water would run to the front of the house and down the driveway. I'm concerned that using plain concrete for this would result in poor adhesion and cracking.

  1. There are a couple diff solutions to your problem.

    1. Cut out that section of driveway and pour a new driveway. This may be more costly up front but is by far the best option.

    2. Use a pearock mix that is 4000 psi that is used as a topping for that area.  By using pearock, it will be easier to only do it a couple inches thick.

    3. They make a couple diff leveling products that adhere quite well to concrete.  The one we have used is called Sonoflo. It has no rocks in it and is used in combination with a liquid etcher/concrete primer so it will adhere.  This is usually used to fill in "birdbaths" or slight dips in concrete floors.  I'm not certain how thick you can put this on but I do know that it is easy to level.

My concern with only putting a 1-2" patch on it is that when you drive over it time after time, it'll eventually crack up and you'll end up doing it all over again.  That is why I suggested just removing and replacing that area. The patch will work temporarily.

Also, if you have any building product stores in your area (Brock White, Bierschbach, Structural Materials), contact them. They may have something similar to Sonoflo that will give you the same result.  To find these dealers, you can contact a local ready mix plant and they'd prob be able to help you locate who you need to call.

    Good luck
