I have an idea for a column that I would like to be paid for and is perfect for their audience.... But I am an amateur so I just want them to read some of it.

  1. Best idea would be to call or write the Publisher, not the Editor...and ask for an appointment to discuss an idea you have for a column that you think he'll be interested in!  Be real up beat about it and enthusiastic!

  2. We used to run weekly ads on an ongoing basis, and were able to negotiate monthly, semi annual, and annual rates depending on our needs.  You need to do this with the publication dept. or with the area sales rep.  They quite often have spaces available that haven't been picked up at the last minute or cancellations from other clients, also.
