I work 8am-5pm. I want to change my time from 7am-4pm so that I can get to class on time. I need to submit my request in writing. What can I put in my letter gram that will make her consider my request? Keep in mind though that my department is really strict with time changes so I want to make it very convincing. Any examples would be appreciated. Thanks!

  1. Depends a lot on what you do and what the class is.

Show how the class will improve your work. Pretty easy if this is a class toward a degree program, even if it is not specific to your job.

Say the class has nothing to do with a degree. Say the class is basket weaving or advanced guitar, you can spin it to your job because of the creativity you are learning will help you be more creative in your job. Say the class is about how to start a business, then focus on how it will help you better understand the business or maybe, spin it as a marketing or accounting class.

What if the class is an exercise class at the gym. Being fit will help you be a healthier more productive employee.

What you really need to say is how the company will benefit. If you can be more productive by coming in an hour earlier, that is a great selling point. Once you get approval, you need to be a lot more productive so your boss sees the wisdom of letting you do something different than the rest of the employees.
