I have a pair of running shoes that got literally taken through the muck, and I'd like to clean them up before wearing them again. The manufacturer's instructions do not recommend sending them through a washing machine, and I am wondering if any other runners have tips about how to clean up the surface and interior of their high-end shoes.

  1. Just let your runners soak in hot sudsy water (take insoles and shoelaces out and wash seperately), add a little bit of bleach (1/8cup), let it soak for an hour at least or overnight.  Drain the water out, get a soft scrub brush and add some clean water to the bucket or sink and scrub vigoursly, both shoes and insoles, rinse and repeat, then have them to dry (put in dryer on low setting for 1/2 hr and then set them outside (with the tongues) out for it to dry.  Setting them outside  in the sun will help kill bacteria as it dries.

I have actually washed them in GENTLE cycle in the washing machine with soap and a little bit of bleach and turned out fine.

  2. you really don't have to wash your running shoes, they are supposed to take beatings like that.

  3. Use a small scrubber that could penetrate inside your shoe.

Procedure: Wet your shoes and the scrubber, put soap on the scrubber and then scrub your shoes gently so that it will not tear apart. Just a simple way on how to clean your running shoes.

  4. toss erm in weashih machine
