  1. I suggest contact an Spade Group that has been established and is well respected in Yahoo and ask their help in assisiting you if it's a worthy cause. They have the experience in handling large tournemant that hold special award tournaments themselves. The Knight Hawk Spade group is  one suggestion. They are on their 9th year holding spade tournaments.

  2. Are you going to play team spades or individual? That will make a difference.

To start out, you might want to have everyone play a certain number of games (say 3 or 4). Then take all teams/players who won at least 3 games play against each other, and keep weeding down till you have the two top teams/4 top players and have them square off in a final game, winner takes all.

If you have a lot of players/teams, you may want to put a 300 to 500 point limit on games to speed things up, with a higher limit on the finial match or final few.

The reason for playing multiple games at first is no one feels like they came for this event and just got to play one game. I'd also encourage you to have tables where people can play once they have been eliminated in case they want to just play for fun.

As far as a prize goes, try searching online and see if you can get a really nice collector's deck of playing cards. Since you probably will have some avid card players in the tournament, this could go ver well. You might even find a place that will cheaply design a basic deck with the name of the fundraiser on the box/cards so you can give out a deck to each participant, with a really nice deck and a gift card for the winners.

Just some thoughts. Hope they help.
