Question:

What would be the best way to redecorate my living room?

It's currently covered in textured wallpaper, and a textured border (NOT my choice the place is rented!!). My landlord doesn't have a problem with re-decorating, so I'd like to, but I have two young children and could do without the hassle of removing the paper. Is it necessary or could I get away with painting over it??

  1. With a ladder and a brush lol!

If the paper is plain textured and does not have a coloured pattern on it, the you will be fine to paint over as long as the paper is still in good condition.

  2. when re-decorating home, bedroom or any other room, always try to choose colors according to feng shui. in this case you will activate powers of 5 elements (water, earth, metal, wood and fire) and support all your lucky "areas" - this will attract love, romance, wealth, money, prosperity, luck etc etc

  3. take no notice of feng shui! yes you can paint over the wallpaper I'm a decorator and have done that many times with great results.

edit, hello Kat didn't know that was you.

  4. afternoon dear. well you could paint over the paper that is what they do on these 60 minute makeovers but personally i think you can tell especially if the paper underneath is not perfect, personally i rip it off and start again but if the plaster comes off with the paper will the landlord re plaster the room ?. it took me a whole week to strip our lounge, textured wallpaper stuck on with superglue and left to go off for 57 years, it was a right ball ache and the room needed replastering afterwards so it turned out expensive but it was worth it as it is the best room in the house, its beautiful, i can recommend crown paint color biscuit, good luck xx

  5. Kat,  Go with Pigeon and Larry, but make sure you save some of the paint, then when your boys draw on it you can paint it over!!!

I am one who knows about these things.  I have even gone over crayon marks on newly painted walls with a brillo before 'dad gets home.'  Shhhhh he still knows nothing about it.  LOL

  6. Removing wallpaper isn't as hard as you probably think. I have done it many of times. Just go to your local home depot and rent their steamer, and that way you will be forced to hurry and finish up the job so you can return it in time. Or at least that always motivates me to hurry, and it will be worth the time spent. Just make sure that the wall is textured already underneath or you will have to hire a painter to texture it.

  7. just shove all the furniture into the middle of the room, throw a sheet over it and paint the wallpaper.  i've done this before, it turned out fine, as long as you don't mind still having the pattern of the wallpaper.
