What would be the best wood for a 2 x 6 Engine mount plate?

I've looked at Lowes at their Treated 2 x 6,s and they all apear to have splits in them already. I dont want to go back in three monthes replacing them .

the shape is L shaped 1 2 x 6 uprite, and one is on top, the engine ataches with three Inch Lag Bolte about 4 nches apart.

  1. if u take the lowes route then make sure u use a water seal like thompsons , other wise u might want to get it from a boat shop


  2. you should get a piece of hardwood like white oak or Honduras Mahogany  Or a piece of 1-1/8 marine plywood.  The treated wood a Lowes is probably hemlock which isnt strong enough to mount a motor to.
