Does victory in sports help improving the "image" and the "prestige" of a country also in other fields ( not just tourism) ?

  1. I don't think whether Europeans think Turkey "acceptable" or not matters any more.

If not for the immigrants, old European countries' culture would be too stagnant to be taken seriously. Look at with whom French literature boasts. Remember of whom German cinema feels proud of. Britain is a veritable hub of global cultures.

Whether Europe likes it or not, "unacceptable" people are rising in economy, culture and social life.

So, Turkey's winning the cup would be only one in many areas that make Turks apparent. Not to mention it would raise the prices of Turkish football players.

  2. From Turkey's perspective It would mean:

    - many lost working hours for Turkey because people would be very busy to celebrate the championship.

    - a cause to forget all the real problems of the country; they will remain unresolved until life returns back to its normal state, which will take pretty long

From European perspective it would mean:

    - no difference in prejudices, economic and political relations, etc. Well, maybe some European football-fan-beer-drinking-couch-potatos may start to embrace the idea of having Turkey in the EU.

What did change when Russia won the Eurovision Song Contest?

  3. Nothing different will happen

I say that as the ex-europe champions!

i have seen no difference to tourist or economy to Greece.

Just respect of the team and the sports level of the country.

Unfortunately/fortunately sports & music do not affect these stuff.I mean politics.

Take into consideration that Turkey is not the only non-member of the EU who takes part.

  4. Answer to all of these questions are the same: Temporarily

Does it help changing prejudices, for instance? TEMPORARILY

What would the Europeans would think if a non-member country won the Euro 2008, in such an important discipline ( football/soccer) ? They would TEMPORARILY think that we are not as bad as they may be thinking tho I'm being optimistic in here

Would they consider Turks as much more acceptable? TEMPORARILY yes

And what about economics and politics? An ego boost for Turks, TEMPORARILY again

Tho it'll be a great moral boost for Turks inside and outside. The more pastoral Turks in Europe need that boost anyway. Some prolonged celebrations will take place (for 2 weeks maximum) and then we are gonna get back discussing our most useless issues that the human history has seen, again!

  5. I agree with Greeting and Blunt.

  6. galatasray won the uefa cup and super cup and nothing really happened...

turkey winning euro 2008 would mean nothing to non-football supporters.its just a game thats all.

anti-turkish people would hate it though,oh believe me,they would hate it...
