What would be the difference ?

If you have a highwaymen painting bought right out of the car in the early 60's would it be worth more than one painted by the same artist today and if so by how much ?

It is all relative. If the work is quality and the artist is selling well today you may have a valuable piece of art. If he isn't doing well, you have a piece of history. Enjoy it.
