Question:

What would be the effect on the atmosphere if all vehicles were hydrogen fueled?

The reason I ask is I've not seen any studies on the effect of hundreds of thousands of vehicles constantly pumping water vapor into the atmosphere. would a city like L.A. be enveloped in a perpetual fog and incessant rain? If all the vehicles in the world were hydrogen fueled, Would the world eventualy be under a blanket of clouds ? if so the clouds would block out light but would allow the UV rays to penetrate and heat the earth. The clouds would then act as a blanket and hold the heat in causeing the polar ice to melt and flood the world.Could this be possible?

  1. As for the direct effects I would not think much would come of it but I could be wrong about that. More research and trail would need to be done to know for sure.

One thing that is for sure is that it takes more energy to separate the hydrogen from the water than the energy you can use for it. Unless you are using environmentally friendly practices like wind and solar to power this process you might as well be whistling Dixie.

IMO hydrogen power is another scam by the energy powers that be. Instead of getting clean cheap renewable power with at most a little supplementation outside of the consumer we are being duped into another dependency. Wind, solar, geothermal, tidal, are some of the few acceptable forms of these type of power.

I can also see forms like bio-fuel from switch grass, termites, and getrofa as being acceptable. Corn based bio-fuel is yet another scam that is not efficient and only encourages subsidies to the rich corporate farming.

Moral of the story, beware of what is touted as environmentally friendly. Often there are hidden economic incentives by those who care much more about making money than saying the environment.

  2. That will depend in a large part on where all the hydrogen comes from.

  3. Contrary to the Fuzzy Bunny Crowd's bizarre ideas, there is no abundance of free hydrogen lying around waiting to solve our energy problems. Hydrogen is an energy storage technique, not really a fundamental source of energy. Hydrogen powered vehicles (like electric vehicles) are not non-polluting....they require an energy source to generate the hydrogen from water or scrub the hydrogen from other fossil fuels (i.e. natural gas), both of which impact the environment somewhere (even hydro-electric is somewhat controversial). So the sum total release of water into the atmosphere is no more than would already be produced by generating the electricity needed to release the hydrogen in the first place. All this said, hydrogen powered fuel cell vehicles should produce fewer emissions than petroleum powered vehicles primarily because they are more efficient and don't consume energy when there is no load on the engine (at stops or on declines for instance). The benefits drop drastically if you are talking about hydrogen powered internal combustion engines.

  4. the effect in LA would be almost immediate instead of feeling the air as it goes down the throat, it would be like sipping a flavored water

  5. Why it that everyone feels that water is the only source for Hydrogen!  Did you know that 78% of the air we breath is made up of hydrogen. Find out how our bodies filter it and use it for fuel, and you'll have something there.

  6. More oxygen.

  7. nothing its just a cycle, the hydrogen has to come from somewhere most of the time it comes from water.
